Our last kilometre of walking today was over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a beautiful way to complete a leg of the trip. The sun was shining, people were smiling and over the past week I can see hope; hope that life will get back for animals. I guess a lot of people saw the live export footage earlier the week, just horrific, horrific that industry and government have continued to allow this cruel practice to continue. What’s positive is the level of public support, the fact that people care about what happened to these cows and are ready to stand up and do something about it. We spent lunchtime at Wynyard Park, handing out delicious vegan sweet options and chatting to people about the environmental benefits of a vegan diet. It took almost 2 ½ days to walk from the outskirts of Sydney to the city centre – funny when you think about how spread out this Sydney is, always feels so much faster in a car. I must say, so much more pleasant and rewarding on foot, I hope walking places becomes a habit! This evening I am reminded of the importance of teamwork and collaboration in being able to achieve. Today we did some amazing interviews with various media; they were long and detailed with lots of thought provoking questions. We have got to meet so many wonderful and generous people on this trip. Today we teamed up with Funky Pies from Bondi, providing a great example of tasty vegan options that people love and of course a compassionate choice and the Vegan Society NSW, who leafleted and who organised the behind the scenes part of the event. A special thanks to Michael, permits are certainly not my specialty! We have vivalavegan doing our communication stuff and Radha back in Byron organising our welcome home party – thanks to you all! Nige, Suki and I are all living on fairly tight budgets to allow spending a few weeks of our precious time completing this project. We are all so thankful to all the supporters that have helped us make this happen. We have had caravan parks let us stay for free, people take us in and feed us amazing food and send us off with bags of organic fruit, and lots of kind emails of support and encouragement. The food donations are what have helped us most. It’s allowed to give out free food options, a great way to promote vegan living and encourage people to try tasty vegan food. Today we handed out Leda ‘Nurture’ bars, Plamil chocolate and vegan coconut ice from Vegan Perfection. I noticed Wayne happily licking up the crumbs on the dish from these sweets too! The organic Viana veggie snacks from Vegan Perfection and Rawganic chocolate have given Suki and I countless km’s of energy for walking. Another food pack arrived for us yesterday, thanks Christina, with a lovely assortment of food including special biscuits for Wayne. And thanks to Vegfund for donating towards our food giveaways in the future. What can I say, thanks again and we are very grateful to take two days off before heading up to the Central Coast, to continue “The journey home”.
